Is the macbook air powerful enough to run virtual dj and the hercules rmx console, music mixing only no video. I am looking into a new computer and the portability of the air is very appealing. I really just need something that will provide stable and consistent performance while mixing music, video mixing is something I can toy around with on my current computer but will not be attemping in front of anyone for a long time.
I do not do any serious dj'ing just house parties and occasional handle the music at one of my companies events usually no more than 30 people.

i would not suggest the the air, partially it's over priced, and even though it may seem thin, i feel like i am going to break it.
I would go with the voodoo envy, even though it's overpriced, it seems alot better than the air, as it is almost as thin but includes a cd drive.(if you are looking at stuff that is thin)
Otherwise, normal laptop's/macbooks should do fine?

Thanks for the input. Probably will not go with envy as I am trying to drop windows, although that laptop does look very nice.

I don't really see the point of an ultraportable if you're intending to DJ... you'll probably just have to plug in more stuff anyways, like an external hard drive, audio interface, possible a controller, etc, so you'd be better off buying a larger machine with more expandability and power since the ultraportables are usually more pricey for less power.
As for MacOS, I keep hearing over and over again that VirtualDJ runs quite a bit worse on the Mac compared to the PC, but I couldn't tell you from my personal experience.

There's a problem with macbook air.
It have only one USB, and if you need an external drive, you have to buy a powered USB HUB, because any controller needs the power from the USB, and any external drive too.
Not saying the problems that may happens with that kind of HUBS and pluggin 2 or more peripheals that needs that power.
I still choose MBP.

Voodoo is overpriced for what you get.

Just to add my two cents... I would stay away from the Air and go with the MacBook or MacBook pro. Just want to add that there are some issues with the Mac version. I suggest reading through the Mac forum to make sure there aren't any bugs with how you will use VDJ. Most notably the lack of timcode compatibility. I've been using VDJ on Mac for a year with success in all areas but timecode. Good luck!
