Sujet: Ground Loop Noise

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I don't know if anybody else has had or is having this problem but it has drove me crazy for 5 years until last week. Ever since I started using a laptop to Dj there has always been ground loop noise in the background. If I remove the power cord it would stop; plug it back in and it's back. I purchased a ground loop isolator, which removed the noise, but it finally died. I also switched to the Numark usb mixer so I couldn't use the isolator anymore. I just lived with it. You know the longer you hear something, the quieter it gets, until I bought a new laptop. I got a Dell Studio 1525 because it has the lighted keyboard; which is sweet!!! It has Vista Home Premium, which I hate, two sound cards, 2.0 Ghz Core 2 Duo with 4 gig of RAM. A nice machine, but the noise that came through my speakers.... Ahhhhhhhhh! After last week's gig I couldn't it take it any more; something had to be done to fix this problem. I did a search on this forum with no luck, so on the Google. After 2 days of different search criteria, I finally came across an in depth article about the subject. Toward the end of the article the author gave this remedy and wha-la, the noise is gone. I mean GONE, GONE! He said to remove the ground plug from the power cord. That simple. Shit, that blew my since of keen wittedness. Anyway if anyone else is slow like me, this worked for me.

Yes, that's the simplest solution. However, make sure that the device (laptop)
that has the isolated ground is always connected to another ground throught
the audio cable (that's where the problem occours). Do not use it without it
being connected to no ground.

The best way to solve the problem is to plug all audio devices (from source
to amps & speakers) to the same ground.

Safest way is to get Ground Loop Isolator, it will remove all noise from your sound.

I understand your pain with the searching of forums. Typing in ground loop isolator gets you alot of info about loops instead. In proper search engines if you use the " " that should narrow down the field but iit doesnt really work with this forum (why?). Typing in just isolator gets some results but still not good enough.

Thanks for the comments and the link, it has some very good information on the subject. I don't think I'll die though, but very helpful.
Till the next time Peace....
