haha, conquest, you also forgot one thing in your quote:
I've stated Apple's philosophy many times: "minimalist design, full functionality".
dont forget about 'propriatarize at all costs'... i hate apple for that reason.
i will be looking at dualbooting between pc and mac with the santa rosa update next year... but being a hardcore nerd, i find macs to be really boring.
pc for going bald, linux for getting the job done...

Wow talk about threadjacking!!! Hehe. I'm a hardcore PC person and I really like the MacBook pro 17". When it comes to the "fastest laptop" though I looked elsewhere and went with the latest Sager NP9261. How's this for specs:
- 17" Wide Viewing Angles WUXGA LCD with Super Glossy Surface (1920 x 1200)
- Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Processor Q6700 / 8MB L2 Cache, 2.66GHz, 1066MHz FSB
- Video & Graphics Card: Single Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT Graphics with 512MB DDR3 Video Memory
- Operating System: Genuine MS Windows® VISTA ULTIMATE 32/64-Bit Edition
- Memory: 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 2 X 1024MB
- RAID-0 Storage 3x 200GB Seagate 7200rpm SATA 300 HDD
- Optical Drive: 8X DVD±R/RW/4X +DL Super-Multi Drive & Software
- Wireless Network Card: Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module
- Bluetooth: Internal Bluetooth Module
- Primary Battery: Smart Li-ION Battery Pack 12 cell
Now honestly this thing is a beast and I know it at 11.5lbs. but it is bar none the fastest notebook out there. Yes you read correctly 3 200GB fast HDDs raided together for a total of 600GB in the laptop. So what if I need a dolly to bring it to gigs! I wanted speed and space! The only thing I didn't go with was the SLI graphics since I don't play games. This was intended for multimedia only. I bought the HDDs elsewhere bringing my total to just over 3600 for it but that included 200 dollars for a guaranteed 0 dead pixel display as well.
Here's a link to the laptop: http://www.sagernotebook.com/product_customed.php?pid=14886
Here's a recent review of a similarly outfitted one: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4096
Can't wait 'til it arrives!

Oh agreed it's a very short lived title. This will be the fastest machine I've ever owned by a wide margin though and I'm looking forward to it.

Don't forget to protect the keyboard from all the drooling over it :-)

nice one soundman... ive been riding the fastest laptop for about 6 months which we all know is the longest possible time you can do so in such an agressive market: Alienware m9750 with full specs...
congrats m8, i was drooling over mine and im very happy with it. these kind of purchases may be expensive, but well worth it. you'll get beaten out for the 'fastest laptop' as well a little bit after you finally recieve it, but you'll probably be happy with it for a few years...
