as far as a 8 bar intro is concerned, all you have to do is loop that intro and u are all set :-) 8 is fine for me most of the time. I am trying SV for 3 months, i will see if they add more dance tracks.

I want to bring to everyones attention our new front end site. We're doing a promo offer to celebrate our new makeover. New members can get going for $87 for three months of service. Enjoy the navigation.

I'm not a member of SmashVid, but I'm considering it. This thread has been very helpful and informative. I really like the idea of getting videos when they hit MTV rather than when Promo Only gets them and mails them. For PO, I have their Express Video subscription thinking I would get new videos faster. It really isn't the case. I'm looking over the latest Express Video right now. I'd only play 3 or 4 of the tracks. That's about what it's like for all the EV discs I get. I'm going to talk to PO in AC to see what the deal is. I doubt they can do anything about it, though. They're usually behind on their audio discs too and those have been around forever.

As for SmashVid having a lot of urban. I would guess they're marketing to the mainstream. Pick any week in the past 5 years and look at Billboards Hot 100 chart. It's between 60 and 70 percent urban. It's been a week or two since I checked the chart, but I don't remember one dance track on it. I'm actually having a hard time remembering the last dance track that made the chart. I guess that depends on everyone's definition of a dance track, though. That's possibly the broadest genre when it comes to DJ language.

I dig SV video's but would like little more selection. Hell, I would take some old school things as well. I like the remix section which i've been doing live which takes a lot of practice and timing during the club hours. So having a remix video to throw in every couple of songs allow me to focus on the camera plug-in. I was even at work listening and learning some of the videos timing for this weakend. ( a small shout out to formatts new skin) very video friendly. So anyway, how about some past video re-edits?

It seems that everyone is sending the same message about dance.
However someone raises a good question about how "dance" is defined..

When I say "Dance" I am referring to 4/4 House/Club music which is a must for almost all European clubs, you will not touch the European market unless this genre is well catered for.

A few fairly recent Dance Hits:
Kelly Rowland - Work(freemasons remix)
Utah Saints - Something Good
Basshunter - Now You're Gone
Yves La Rock - Rise Up
H two 0 feat Platnum - What's It Gonna Be
Booty Luv - Boogie 2Nite

Although I don't like all these tracks, they are typically the sort of tracks I'd need for commercial club gigs (most gigs).

I would also say that Smash should deliver more general upbeat/danceable mainstream material.

Popular mainstream party/dance tracks:
Outkast - Hey Ya
MC Hammer - You Can't Touch This
Salt 'N Peppa - Push it
Beyonce Knowles ft. Jay-Z - Crazy In Love
Black Eyed Peas - Pump It
Black Eyed Peas - Let's get it started
Amy Winehouse - Rehab
Duffy - Mercy
Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me
Taio Cruz - Come On Girl
The Ting Tings - Thats Not My Name

This is the kind of stuff that gets people moving, whilst Smash provide many similar tracks, I do find that too many tracks are very slow R'n'B/Hip Hop. Good material for the first hour as people enter the club, or for slow dancing at the end but not suitable for the peak time/dancing.

More Dance music according to both definitions would suite me.

Wondering if SmashVidz fills in the gap with Warner Music Videos that PromoOnly fails on. Noticed the SmashVidz shows the WB Records logo and PromoOnly seems to be still having issues getting Warner releases. Also how is SmashVidz on Country Music?

It isn't.

I get Express Video weekly and toss the same percentage of tracks over Hot Video.
Venue is nice for filling in some holes in my collection which was started in 2000.
Venue needs some work in the tagging dept.
Got every PO Hot Video and Classic and specialty disc they have produced along with some Club and loads of Country.
If you are starting out, the Classic series is up to 2001 now, so you save a bunch of $ on dead music you won't play.
Then just fill the holes from there with Venue and get a current sub to keep yourself up to date.

We don't play too much Country mostly just the cross-over hits but, with PromoOnly not releasing Warner titles we ended up missing a number of hits including basically everything Carrie Underwood came out with after "Before He Cheats". Currently we are doing Express Video with Club Video Monthly and for the most part are happy but, looking for another service that can help fill in the gaps where PromoOnly fails to deliver.

Is there much demand for country music in the US clubs then? I'm not tacking the p!$$, just curious - it's not a genre that's ever really done much across the pond here, other than the occasional Shania Twain track or (god forbid) Billy Ray Cyrus...

Promo Only's Hot Video Classics are now up to 2002. No matter what year they're up to, your advice is dead on. Just get the classics, and start your collection from there. For those that are going to the DJ Expo in AC; in the past, Promo Only sold all their DVD's for $25 each. Normally, they're $40 each. Assuming they don't change their prices this year, if you're going to the convention and are looking to get started in video, hit up the Promo Only booth to save some serious cash.

PromoOnly has been running specials on all remaining monthly DVDs and CDs from 2005 and 2006. Check with your sales rep for what's still available but, they were selling the 2005 for $10 each and the 2006 for $15 each. CDs I believe were around $5 and $6 but, don't remember for sure.

The club I work for is a basically a Video Bar not so much as a dance club, so we end up playing a variety of music.

Kind of surprised that screenplay hasn't been mentioned here yet. I signed up with them when they had all the warner and atlantic videos that PO couldn't get. and I haven't looked back. They have a deep classics collection and they give you a choice of either DVds or Mpg2's so I don't have to rip anymore. and no I don't work for them. But I just realized a lot of people in this room are from the UK, so that explains that I guess since I think they are only available in the US.

ClubBusta... can you post the link to the screenplay site? I'd like to check it out.

Sorry about that... I should've clarified the $25 price I was talking about was referring to Promo Only's Hot Video Classic series. bonaparte made a great point of getting back issues to build your collection, too.

hmmmm maybe I should keep this to myself hahaha. Here you go http://www.screenplayvj.com Ever since I found these guys a couple of months ago I dont even bother with anything else.

Club Buster & Hi Tower.
I been getting videos from Screenplay for the past four years. I have never had any problems with the quality of any of their disk. They do have a great classic section which has grown over the years. Screen play is a great source to have.

After a quick look, I really like what I see at Screenplay. I looked around for pricing, but didn't see anything. How much is a subscription?

Give Doug Howard a call. Their pricing is slighty cheaper than Promo Only. You also get to choose which format you get.
Your choice are in dvd format or mpeg 2.
You will not be disappointed.
