What I want to know is how a freshman senator gets to run for president, and no one questions him at all.

The same way we got a lying, boozing, coke sniffing, babbling idiot c student, "Mr president, another plane hit the other tower", "well I'm gonna sit right here with the kids, where it's safe", "New York, is that next to Vermont" "I can't stand up right now, because I peed on myself" "because he tried to kill my Daddy", "Mission Accomplished", for a president.

Simple.

I'm gonna take you to court for using the term "alleged", when referring to him. Jimmy Kimmel has a collection of clips (a new collection every week) of the most unbelievable stuff this guys says, and I am embarrassed. But then I realize, it's not my fault they let him out without a handler, and I laugh.

Certainly one of the dumbest world leaders in my relatively short time, and worst the most powerful, he's killed more people since Hitler, the difference is that he feels democracy justifies the means, although it's quite the double standard as he and his government are best friends with the most dictatorial, least democratic country in the world: Saudi Arabia, they even sell them fighter jets and other powerful weapons, what are they going to do with these? Make sure women stay in the house? We know they aren't going to attempt to free Palestine.

This is the kind of statement that some Americans find offensive, but they forget that it's not just their TAX money destroying other peoples countries, it's mine too, and my personal priority (when voting) is to put an end to this madness.

I don't claim to be a great saint, but I believe in equality for all, that is to say that the blood of an Iraqi or Afghan is no less valuable than that of a westerner, that's something that many like to think they agree with, but most do not if truth be told, and I know the more outspoken "intellects" here will proudly conform to this.

It's like Cyders remark about Barack Obama, choosing to use his middle name "Hussein", as a means of discrediting this mans worth as runner for U.S president, because people automatically associate that with the ex-leader of Iraq (who killed less Iraqis than Bush, fact), and more shamefully associate it with him being Muslim, and if that was true, he would be guilty of all accusations because the Muslims are terrorists in the minds of too many Americans, thanks to great ignorance and their own governments foreign policy.

Bren, he has not killed more people than anyone since Hitler....Idi Amin Dada killed up too a half a million. We have no way of knowing how many female children have been killed in China since the Chinese government will not release any information. Saddam Hussein is known to have killed over 200,000 Suni Sheite Muslims. That is exactly the type of statement I was talking about in one of my earlier posts.

Your intent might not be bad, but your statements have from time to time come across as extremely negative towards a place that we call home.

See how that can be misunderstood as you attacking my country's sense of right and wrong? Please stop comparing any leader to Hitler until after a War Crimes commission has had a trail.....Not to mention he gave no specific orders to invade Iraq that were not approved by Congress. So please do not blame one man......It is unbecoming of a person who claims to care about all people.

The larger than expected increase in oil inventories put a brake on oil prices, for the moment. Oil rose just 30 cents to $122.14 per barrel in Wednesday morning trading. The other major energy commodities were also virtually unchanged. Unleaded gasoline gained 1 cent to $3.11 per gallon. Heating oil rose about 2 cents to $3.37 per gallon. Natural gas gain 2 cents to $11.15 per million BTUs.

http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/weekly_petroleum_status_report/current/txt/wpsr.txt

So what continues to drive the price up, since we can't say the supply is less then last week?

So, imagine how much oil would come down if we continued to use less and less each month for an extended period of months and not just a few weeks....it's like the diet I never stay on, I quit drinking mountain dew for a week and I get frustrated because I only lose 1 pound so I think it's not worth it, but if I had the will power to stay off mountain dew for the whole year I would probably have lost 60 pounds (1 pound per week plus the compound metabolic loss from the severe cutback in my sugar intake)... but I like Mountain Dew too much and I am too impatient to wait a year for the 60 pounds to come off

If you can afford it by all means buy it, use it, abuse it and don't care about those that can't afford it think about it that's what having money is all about and that's why some people drive mercedes and some of us have kia mini-vans. The point here is what sacrifices as a SOCIETY must be made to drive the cost down, not whether there is enough people who are actually willing to make those sacrifices rather than just complain about it.

And I'm the one out of touch, I'd love to visit this perfect world you talk about. Society is not going to do this no matter how many tree hugger's are rallied.

That's my point exactly we probably will never get society to improve so we are stuck with the high prices and the greed of the rich because as individuals we cannot effect change, only when society works together and as I said in closing we have too many other differences, petty greivences and personal agendas to do that until it is too late...if ever, thus the dilema we are now in because we should have taken care of this and been planning on this decades ago

We tried E....but tree huggers blocked drilling in the Gulf Of Mexico and in Alaska. They also blocked the use of nuclear power, which outside of a couple of very minor accidents here in the US and one major one in Russia has proven to be very safe, clean and reliable. There is even a way to dispose of the rods once they are used safely now. Want a laugh? China is now drilling off the coast of Cuba for oil, less than 150 miles from our coast....Imagine if we had taken care of it ten years ago......

Canada is looking to expand it's nuclear electric power generation as well Terry; The latest location going through an Environmental Impact Evaluation is Northern Alberta - the oilsands.

Side note.

Wind farms are becoming slightly popular up here but only on the prairies where there is sufficient open space to have the windmills. I personally really like the wind generated electricity. More so than Coal or Nuclear Generated.

I have been reading this thread with keen interest as someone who is interested in politics but also as someone who never quite finds the right way of expressing himself I have held back from posting but I just wanted to say that I agree with DJ Electrics sentiment that it takes the people of the world to make a change, it takes us to make some uncomfortable decisions to make a better life for us and our descendents. It has happened in the past so it CAN happen again however unlikely.

Having lived most of my life in the UK coming from middle class stock with conservative parents I am most likely to follow this direction but I just cant, and I feel that the only way forward is to think of the world as a whole. back in Scotland I voted socialist and here in Cyprus we actually have a communist President (the only in western Europe I believe). You can call me a tree hugger if you like, I am one, trees rule (till some corporation cuts them down), I am an old hippy who loves his music for the emotional impact it has on my audience or even on myself I even did my dissertation at university on the emotional impact of music. Music brings the world together regardless of race, sex, sexual orientation or class. Can not politics do the same thing. it can but only if we make uncomfortable decisions that may make life more dificult for the individual but better for the society as a whole.

Sorry for the ramble I did warn you that concise discussion is not my strong point.

Well you clearly don't give a damn about the hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis, millions injured, millions refugee, the entire population suffering in one form or another.

Idi Amin, the number of people killed under his regime could be anywhere from 100,000 to 500,000, that's the range according to human rights groups.

Iraq’s death toll easily exceeds this number,

Survey Iraqi deaths from March 2003:
1) Iraqi Health Ministry survey 151,000 violent deaths out of 400,000 excess deaths due to the war. June 2006
2) Lancet survey 601,027 violent deaths out of 654,965 excess deaths. June 2006 (The John’s Hopkins university concurs with this figure)
3) Opinion Research Business survey 1,033,000 violent deaths as a result of the conflict. August 2007

Of course Bush was just the silly face behind this massacre, he couldn't organise a prayer in a church, but of course it's what and who he represents, just as Hitler and Saddam didn't kill masses of people without influence, and a sizable number of supporters.

Anyone with a memory longer than 10 years would know that this is merely Iraq part 2, Iraq part 1, post the Kuwait war, saw half a million children die as a result of U.N sanctions, that is according to U.N figures, not the people who might care about a number of dead Iraqis, and anyone with any knowledge of the U.N would know that the U.S has monopoly over it, it's will can go through the U.N or without concern for the U.N.

The only people being punished for what Hitler did, are the Palestinians who's country has been wiped off the map, one may ask, what was their role in WW2?

We all know those who are accountable, I don't like what I'm saying anymore than you do, I'd love to be a part of a great country, but I wont let my dreams cloud the reality.

I'm an American, and proud of it. However, I like to keep it real. I do not think that Bagpuss was negative towards America. That is what the talking heads would like most of you to believe. "They said something about our leader, so they are anti-American". Would you intelligent people please stop with this bullshit. Dubya is a pucking idiot, and he lied to everyone to go into Iraq. To blame our intelligence community, is typical of, someone has to take the fall bullshit. We have the best intelligence money can buy, because we have the most money. It is very easy to focus on the mistake in his post about Hitler, and blow past the big picture. He is a lying sack of shit, and you can not change the facts. He is not the first US president to lie to the people, but his lie is still costing our service men and women their lives. Remember earlier I said that humans are followers. Well, most of our elected leaders, are followers also. If any one of you had a brain ( I know you do, I just need to be dramatic here), you would understand that George held a political gun to their heads, for that vote. There were a few brave enough to say no, but most went along like sheep. He lied to them also. So, I am an American willing to speak my mind. George is sitting in the Presidents office, and I still respect the office of the president. I do not agree with most of his policies. I know his inner circle, because they have been around for years. You guys do remember Saddam was our good buddy at one time? We did not mind how many people he was killing, as long as he was helping us with Iran. Wait, what is that smell. Bullshit.

They must be pissed, because I just got a visit from the Secret Service. They said that George did not wet his pants on Sept 11th, but spilled koolade on his self. I said "what flavor". They said "red, why". I said "I'm tired and need to take a nap now".

I say we all just start shooting each other! That way we have more O2 to go around because that is in shortage too. At least that is what they said.... Rain Forests are gone and we are all going to choke!

Plus there will be more fuel and food to go around....Elect me for President and I will make it happen. I will fire up a war or something and send 1/3 of the population...men and ugly women into war with China made guns with rubber bullets. We sell this to the American population saying it is the humane thing to do in a war...they will understand!

TADAAAa...More food...Gas....Money....and less ugly chicks.

You want to know something Bren, and I'm sorry to be brutally blunt, I would rather it was them than my daughters. Here is the truth, since the US Armed Forces moved into Iraq and Afghanistan not one terrorist attack has occurred on US soil. There may, or may not, be a correlation but that is not important. I have two daughters and if push comes to shove I'll gladly push anyone in front of a speeding bullet for them to be safe. So, yeah call me an asshole, but my daughters come first. Sorry if that puts me in a bad light. I do not know if you have kids, if not then you should wait until you do to respond to this post. I used to care a great deal about everything around the globe. I was very idealistic. Then I saw my daughter for the first time and it changed something inside of me. I started playing it safe. No more chances. Soldiers die, its a sad but true that it is a part of the job. They all knew it was a risk when they signed up. Don't think for a second that a terrorist would not kill you as soon as look at you. So, if soldiers have to die to keep my daughters safe, so be it. If innocent strangers die and my daughters are safe, sorry I'll prey for their immortal souls. But, my daughters are still safe. That is my only concern......and those are the facts.

In case you wanted to know what my daughters look like here they are....

My oldest Brin. She is 14 and is at the top of her class.

This is my little one Selena, with Buddy. She is a very sweet tender child.

Sorry if my statements offend anyone but those are my feelings.......

To TearEmUp:

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! It’s one of those: "Whatever!". You are being so deeply dogmatic about it that the people here are being quiet just like they did before as soon as you bring your daughters into the mix. You see there is no response as if we’re talking about some scary religious dogma.

Guess what!? Thank goodness the world does not think like you. Or, it would’ve been one total disaster. We have rational people that are fighting for one common cause: "The Well-Being of one Common World", and not the USA world that you think.

I am Haitian living in New Jersey U.S. for 21 years. Haiti has a Duvalier dictatorship (father and son) for 29 years that killed thousands of people. A revolution came and the U.S. took the son February 7 1986 to France to live happily ever after. Meanwhile, Saddam Hussein also killed thousands, and he got hung. Why?! Bush said: "He tried to kill my daddy". Give me a freaking break! Soldiers only sign up to "potentially" die in a just war. Not in his crap of war. If you want to rid the world of dictators, why Iraq? If Iraq, why stop there? Keep on moving to Iran, N. Korea… If you want to rid the world of Muslims, why just Iraq, why not Saudi Arabia where 15 of 19 Hijackers (Sept 11) came from, where women got sentenced to death for being raped.

I’ll tell you why: U.S. only cares about its own interest. In 2004, Hurricane Jeanne killed 3000 people in Haiti; the U.S. only gave the Haitian people $60,000. Haiti, about 600 miles SE of Miami Florida, gets no respect from the U.S. only because it’s a country full of Negroes, and NO OIL. Did President Clinton help Rwanda? Hell No!

The question that I got asked: Then why don’t you go back to Haiti? My answer: Well, if you are not one of the surviving Native American Indians, you have no right to ask this question. I can’t and I won’t go back mainly because Haitians were the first ones to die for the U.S. and in U.S. soil in the revolutionary war. Haitians defeated Napoleon Bonaparte and that helped the U.S. gain Louisiana…

The word is SACRIFICE. To impress me, one must start by turning off the lights in Las Vegas and Times Square NYC until 2020. We cannot destroy Planet Earth. We are just eradicating ourselves out through our voracity, and carelessness. As proven before, the planet always bounces back, always. When it does, smarter species will adapt better –hopefully.

Americans only care about their HDTV and their 9-to-5 jobs. They are proud of their multi-millionaire athletes and movie stars. Las Vegas and Times Square lights will NOT be turned off. Therefore, Americans only have to stop buying new cars, drive a lot less, and buy just the necessity. That would make a huge difference. You must NOT count on politicians. In the US, Republicans are d!cks, and Democrats are p*ssies. They do freakin’ match! Gas prices are High: Mission Accomplished.

You can bring up your kute daughters all you want at the end of every topic of this sort. One thing is for sure: Recognize that we only have ONE world.

Paraphrasing DJ E-Lectric:
Probably, we will never get society to improve so we are stuck with the high prices and the greed of the rich because, as individuals, we cannot effect change. Certainly, we can achieve plenty when ALL societies work together. Let’s not let our differences, petty grievances, and personal agendas impede our progress –for the sake of Humanity.

We should destroy Earth, why not? Tell me one good reason? If it's there, smash it! If you can see it, blow it away! I hate that "Save the Earth" people like there is no Mars :)
Sorry, AMAHM is not here so I try to fill in :)))
LOL

Wheel, the USA is my home so that is what I care about. Sacrifice does not include my daughters, if they become adults and choose to sacrifice so be it but I am not going to sacrifice them. I do not own an HDTV, and work two jobs. And personally am sick and tired of professional athletes and stars getting preferential treatment. Good luck on your campaign to get Times Square and Vegas to turn their lights off. But if I were you I would not hold my breath. This planet is changing...just like it has been doing for billions of years. It is adapting, just like man is adapting. This recent volcano that erupted in Chili early this month, is throwing more dust and pollution into the air than all the cars ever created. And its doing so in only a couple of weeks. It is the height of arrogance to assume that man is significant enough to effect this planet as much as Mother Nature herself. The planet will survive, it always has. Whether we do or not is up to us, but please don't come telling me about how we are ruining this planet because MAN is not smart enough to know if we are or not. Its all guesses, guesses from educated people, but people, not God. And if all the volcano's that ever erupted had this little impact on our world what makes you think us driving our cars and using electricity is going to destroy it? That is just hubris.

TearEmUp:

I've never said that Men are ruining this planet the way you are implying. I clearly wrote that: "We cannot destroy Planet Earth." -- "Las Vegas and Times Square lights will NOT be turned off". I wrote about arrogance, care and self-sacrifice.

I agree with you on some point. But, do not miss my point that American people are not willing to make any sacrifices. With sacrifices, we can make big differences on the quality and the equality of life on this planet. Prices of living are ridiculously expensive. A decent family of 4 in the U.S. are surviving on $40,000 a year while others are not making a quarter of that. Our health insurance in the U.S. is a disaster. My Haitian people are surviving on dirt cookies while TV shows are flaunting money all over our faces.

By sacrifice, I mean our way of living must be changed. There are too much suffering, and moneys are being wasted on nonsense. People are living on less than $1 a day. That can only fuel hatred towards other groups of people. That's when stuff gets ugly. We just cannot sit on our hands and hope a messiah politician comes up and makes life all pretty. The French Revolution worked; and it seems like we may have to call upon something similar.

We only have one life to live here on Earth, and we have future generations on our backs. We are nowhere near colonizing Mars. Imagine we stop glorifying stupidities, and we stay home with our families. Imagine we mobilize ourselves somehow, and we demand drastic changes. We can do it! But first, we must recognize that the whole system is funked up. Rice and gas prices are too damn high. While the human race is still here, it's ridiculous for someone to lose sleep over some rent/mortgage money while others are in a race to become the world first trillionaire.

For all I care, we can disappear off the face of this planet. But first, we can try to make it work TOGETHER. We can agree on that one. Can't we?
